Alexander (Alex) LaMotte is a dedicated and versatile individual with a strong drive in multiple fields. Recently graduated with a BA in Journalism and minors in Atmospheric Sciences and Music at the University of Colorado Boulder, LaMotte has demonstrated a commitment to a multidimensional career. His educational journey began in Highlands Ranch, Colorado at Rock Canyon High School and continued at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida, where he initially majored in Music Theory & Composition.
LaMotte’s passion for meteorology is evident through his coursework and involvement with the American Meteorological Society at both the University of Miami and CU Boulder. Alongside multiple meteorology-related classes, LaMotte has participated in the WxChallenge Forecast Competition, showcasing his skills in weather analysis and forecasting. In the field of journalism, LaMotte has immersed himself in multiple different avenues of the industry, taking classes in sports, gender studies, video production, and reporting. His diverse academic background equips him with a unique perspective on the intersection of science and media.
LaMotte’s work experience includes roles at Starbucks Coffee Company, where he has honed his customer service skills and earned the prestigious Partner of the Quarter award, the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestras, where he is an alumnus board member, and Omni Interlocken Resort & Spa as a guest services agent. LaMotte was also a post-production intern for the Classical Chats podcast series at Together with Classical, where he analyzed raw footage, provided commentary on potential edits, and reviewed final products before posting.
In addition to his professional and academic pursuits, LaMotte has a range of other skills and hobbies. He has shadowed his father, an international airline pilot for United Airlines, gaining insights into weather dispatching and understanding weather maps. LaMotte is bilingual in Spanish and is actively learning other languages in his free time. As a musician, he is an experienced violinist, violist, and orchestral composer, with a presence on YouTube showcasing his musical talents. He has also had multiple of his compositions performed at venues across the US and Europe.
